Founded in 1925, DIW is one of the leading economic research institutes in Germany.
The Institute analyzes the economic and social aspects of topical issues, formulating and disseminating policy advice based on its research findings.
DIW Berlin is part of both the national and international scientific communities, provides research infrastructure to academics all over the world.
It also has first-rate access to empirical data, as exemplified by its Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) – one of the world’s best data sources on the socio-economic situation in Germany.

The Leibniz Association connects 93 independent research institutions that range in focus from the natural, engineering and environmental sciences via economics, spatial and social sciences to the humanities. Leibniz Institutes address issues of social, economic and ecological relevance.
They conduct knowledge-driven and applied basic research, maintain scientific infrastructure and provide research-based services.

Directions and travel advice

Getting to/from Berlin

  • By plane: At the site of the two Berlin airports - Tegel Airport (TXL) and Schönefeld Airport (SXF) - you will find domestic, European and intercontinental flights under one roof. There are direct flights from all major European cities to Berlin.

1. Public transportation within Berlin by Berlin public transport system ("Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe" - "BVG")

2. Arival at Tegel Airport (TXL) (Site plan) - Travel to the hotels in the center of Berlin

  • Take Express Bus TXL - direction S+U Alexanderplatz - and leave at ... (depending on your hotel)
  • Select at the ticket maschine: Singele ticket 2,80€ / Tarif-Zone A-B.

2.1 To travel to Hotel Mercure Berlin City - Invalidenstraße 38, 10115 Berlin (details below)

  • Leave Express Bus TXL at Invalidenpark then walk 350 meters to the Hotel Mercure Berlin City.

2.2 To travel to Best Western Hotel - Albrechtstraße 25, 10117 Berlin (details below)

  • Leave Express Bus TXL at Charité - Campus Mitte and then walk 500 meters to the Best Western Hotel.

2.3 To travel Motel One Berlin-Hauptbahnhof - Invalidenstraße 54, 10557 Berlin (details below)

  • Leave Express Bus TXL at Berlin Central Station (S+U Berlin Hauptbahnhof )
  • and then walk 100m along Invalidenstr. to Motel One.

 

3. Arival at Schönefeld Airport (SXF) - Travel to the hotels in the center of Berlin

  • Take S-Bahn line S9 - direction Spandau - and leave at ... (depending on your hotel)
  • Select at the ticket maschine: Singele ticket 3,40€ / Tarif-Zone A-B-C.
  • Buy and validate the ticket (orange DB ticket stamper) before you enter the train.

3.1 To travel to Hotel Mercure Berlin City - Invalidenstraße 38, 10115 Berlin (details below)

  • Leave S9 at "Friedrichstrasse". Take
  • Tram 12 (direction Weißensee / Pasadegaplatz) to Naturkundemuseum/Chausseestr. (3rd. stop) or
    Metro U6 (direction Alt-Tegel) to Naturkundemuseum /Chausseestr. (2nd. stop )
  • Walk to crossing Chausseestr./Invalidenstr (turn left coming from Tram 12 / turn right coming from U6) and go ahead to the Hotel Mercure,

3.2 To travel to Best Western Hotel - Albrechtstraße 25, 10117 Berlin (details below)

  • Leave S9 at "Friedrichstrasse".
  • Leave at next stop Friedrichstrasse. Take respectice exit to cross the river Spree on the footbridge direction Schiffbauerdamm.
  • At Schiffbauerdamm turn right and walk until corner Albrechtstraße. Turn left and walk 300 meters to the Best Western Hotel.

3.3 To travel Motel One Berlin-Hauptbahnhof - Invalidenstraße 54, 10557 Berlin (details below)

  • Leave S9 at "Berlin Central Station" (Berlin Hauptbahnhof ).
  • Take exit Europaplatz / Invalidenstr. Turn left and walk 100m along the Invalidenstraße to Motel One

 

4. Arrival by train at Berlin Central Station - Travel to the hotels in the center of Berlin

4.1 To travel to Hotel Mercure Berlin City - Invalidenstraße 38, 10115 Berlin (details below)

  • Take exit Europaplatz / Invalidenstr. Board Tram M8 (direction Ahrensfelde) to Naturkundemuseum
  • Then walk 50 meters ahead to the Hotel Mercure, which is located across the street.

4.2 To travel to Best Western Hotel - Albrechtstraße 25, 10117 Berlin (details below)

  • At main station's 2nd. floor take S-Bahn line S5 (direction Strausberg) or S9 (direction Schönefeld)
  • Leave at next stop Friedrichstrasse. Take respectice exit to cross the river Spree on the footbridge direction Schiffbauerdamm.
  • At Schiffbauerdamm turn right and walk until corner Albrechtstraße. Turn left and walk 300 meters to the Best Western Hotel.

4.3 To travel to Motel One Berlin-Hauptbahnhof - Invalidenstraße 54, 10557 Berlin (details below)

  • Take exit Europaplatz / Invalidenstr. Turn left and walk 100 meters along the Invalidenstraße to Motel One.

This area offers bus and public transport connections to the conference venue (headquarter of Leibniz Association, Berlin).

    • Option A - Main station 2nd. floor: Take S3 (direction Erkner) S5 (direction Strausberg), S7 (direction S-Ahrensfelde) or S9 (Flughafen Schönefeld) to next stop 'Friedrichstraße'.
      • Change to line U6 (direction 'Alt-Mariendorf'), get off after 2 stops at U-Stadtmitte.

Travel advice

  1. From the conference venue & Hotel Mercure City
    • take Tram M10 (direction S+U Warschauerstrasse) and get off  U-Eberswalderstrasse. Walk 300 meters to the Palais in der Kulturbrauerei.
  2. From Motel One Hauptbahnhof
    • take Tram M10 (direction S+U Warschauerstrasse)  and get off  U-Eberswalderstrasse. Walk 300 meters to the Palais in der Kulturbrauerei.
  3. From Hotel Best Western
    • take from S+U Friedrichstrasse Metro U6 (direction Alt-Tegel) to Naturkundemuseum /Chausseestr. (2nd. stop).
    • Change to Tram M10 (direction S+U Warschauerstrasse) and get off  U-Eberswalderstrasse. Walk 300 meters to the Palais in der Kulturbrauerei.
